On the route to Ollantaytambo you’ll find two beautiful places: the circles of Moray and the salt flats of Maras. They are quite hidden and difficult to visit on your own, so I would definitely advice you to do a guided tour for these ones.

The tour starts at 8:30 am. First stop: the village of Maras. You’ll continue to the nearby ruins of Moray. These terrace circles were used for experimentation with crops, especially potatoes.

The second destination is the salt mines of Maras, which were already used in pre-Inca times. The view is beautiful with around 3000 salt pools. You’ll be back in Cusco at around 2 pm.

The entrance of Moray is included in the boleto turístico. The salt mines of Maras have an entrance fee of 10 soles.
