Your visit to Machu Picchu starts on the second day, but on the first day you’ll travel to the village of Aguas Calientes and sleep there so that you can go up to the beautiful lost city first thing in the morning.
The transfer will pick you up from your accommodation and bring you to Ollantaytambo. There you’ll take the train to the village of Aguas Calientes. At the train station someone will be waiting for you and bring you to your hotel. He will give you all the information you need for your trip up to Machu Picchu the next day. You’re free to walk around to explore the beautiful village and rest for the big day.
The next morning you’ll take the bus up to Machu Picchu and start your guided tour there. After entering with the guide, you can enter a second time without guide to take some more pictures, or to go to the Sun Gate or the Inca Bridge. After you’re done, you can start walking down to the village of Aguas Calientes, which takes one hour and a half. If you’re too tired, you can also choose to take the bus back. The nature in that area is beautiful, but the stairs might give you a hard time. You’ll have the time to have lunch and walk around in the beautiful nature following the river. At the end of the day you’ll take your train back to Ollantaytambo where your transfer will take you back to Cusco.
