Something new since 2017 is the one-day trek to the Humantay Lake, which tourists could only see during their Salkantay Trek to Machu Picchu. Now you can do something similar like the first day of the Salkantay Trek to see this beautiful blue lake surrounded by mountaintops covered in snow.

You’ll be picked up between 4 and 5 am and drive 3 hours to the Mollepata village to get breakfast. After that you’ll continue for one hour by car to Soraypampa and start the trek of 2 hours. The Humantay Lake is located at an altitude of 4,200 meters and it was a very sacred place for the Incas. There’s also the possibility to rent a horse for the last part of the trek. After spending enough time at the lake you’ll walk back down and see the Salkantay Mountain, which is the second highest mountain in the Cusco region. The bus will drive you to Mollepata where you’ll have your lunch, and you’ll be back in Cusco at round 6 pm.
